Camp Notre Dame’s story began in 1959 when the Catholic Diocese of Erie purchased 185 acres in Fairview Township with a vision: to create a place where young people could grow in faith, friendship, and community for generations to come.

That vision quickly became reality. During the fall and winter of 1959, ten cabins were constructed to complement the existing buildings on the property—the Green House, the White Mansion, and the Horse Barn. In the summer of 1960, the first campers and staff arrived, marking the beginning of a tradition that continues today.

In 1994, Camp Notre Dame entered a new chapter when it was purchased by the Loyal Christian Benefit Association (LCBA), an Erie-based fraternal organization. Under LCBA’s stewardship, the Camp’s successful programs continued to thrive, and important development efforts helped secure its future.

Just four years later, in 1998, Camp Notre Dame returned to the sponsorship of the Diocese of Erie, supported by the extraordinary generosity of benefactors who believed in the Camp’s mission and impact.

Over the decades, Camp Notre Dame has grown tremendously. The addition of new facilities, enhanced campsites, expanded programming, and updated recreational opportunities has allowed the Camp to serve more children and families than ever before. While much has changed since those first campers arrived in 1960, one thing remains constant: our commitment to providing a place where young people can grow, belong, and create memories that last a lifetime.

Today, Camp Notre Dame continues to build on its rich legacy, guided by the same mission that inspired its founding—to serve children and families through faith-filled experiences, meaningful relationships, and unforgettable adventures.
